Hot Pilates in St. Albert

Hot mat Pilates at Afitness is a 50 minute, full body class taught in a heated room. It combines core focused Pilates movement with light equipment and the cardiovascular lift of heat, so you leave stronger, looser, and drenched. Classes run several days a week with morning and evening options, and they are open to all levels. Afitness is a women only studio in St. Albert, close to north Edmonton, Sturgeon County, and Morinville.

What hot Pilates is

Hot Pilates is mat based Pilates taught in a heated room. The movements come from classical and contemporary Pilates: controlled core work, glute and hip strengthening, spinal articulation, and full body sequences performed with precision and breath. The heat adds a cardiovascular element. Your heart rate climbs faster, your muscles warm up sooner, and you sweat far more than in a room temperature class. The room is heated before class begins so it is already warm when you walk in. It is a workout room, not a sauna.

What a class is like

Every class opens with a five minute warm up and closes with a five minute cool down, with roughly 40 minutes of work in between. Depending on the class you may use hand weights from 2 to 15 lb, weighted bars and rings, Pilates rings, Pilates balls, blocks, and bands. The hot room holds 22 people, so classes feel full and energetic without being crowded. Classes are known for being on the challenging side, but every exercise has a modification and the instructor cues options throughout.

Benefits

Members come to heated Pilates for a higher heart rate and more calories burned than a room temperature mat class, muscles that feel warm and mobile quickly, noticeable core, glute, and leg strength within the first several weeks, improved flexibility and posture, better sleep after evening classes, and a heavy, satisfying sweat. Most members who come two to four times per week report feeling stronger and leaner within the first month or two.

Is hot Pilates safe?

For healthy adults, heated exercise is well tolerated when you hydrate and listen to your body. Pregnant clients may not attend hot mat Pilates under any circumstance. If you have a medical condition, tell the instructor and provide medical clearance before participating. If you feel dizzy or unwell during class, stop, rest, and let the instructor know. Drink water before class and avoid a heavy meal in the hour before.

What to wear and bring
