Things Every Woman Thinks During a Pilates Class (But No One Says Out Loud)

If you’ve ever taken a Pilates class, you know the room is usually calm and quiet. Everyone is focused, breathing, moving slowly, and the instructor is giving gentle cues.

But inside your head… the thoughts are usually a little different.

The funny thing is, most women in the room are probably thinking the exact same things — we just don’t say them out loud.

Here are a few thoughts that seem to cross almost every woman’s mind during a Pilates class.

“Is everyone else struggling this much?”

You start the exercise, and within about five seconds your legs begin shaking.

You glance around the room and everyone else somehow looks calm and controlled. Meanwhile you're wondering if you're the only one whose muscles feel like they’re about to give up.

The truth is, almost everyone is feeling it. Pilates works a lot of deep stabilizing muscles that most of us don’t use very much in everyday life. When those muscles start working, shaking is actually pretty normal.

And honestly, instructors see it all the time.

“How is the instructor making this look so easy?”

The instructor demonstrates the move and it looks simple. Smooth. Effortless.

Then you try it… and suddenly your core is shaking, your legs are burning, and you’re wondering how something so small can feel so hard.

That’s because Pilates movements are very controlled and precise. They might look gentle, but they’re incredibly effective when done properly.

“Please don’t say ‘just one more.’”

You’re holding a position and trying to stay strong, and then the instructor says those famous words:

“Just one more.”

In your head you're thinking, didn’t we already do one more?

But usually those last few reps are the ones that really challenge your muscles. They’re uncomfortable in the moment, but they’re also where a lot of progress happens.

“Why are my legs shaking like this?”

This is probably one of the most common things people notice during Pilates.

Your legs start trembling and you think something must be wrong.

But most of the time it just means your muscles are working hard. Pilates focuses a lot on small stabilizing muscles that aren’t used to being activated this way.

So the shaking? Completely normal.

And then at the end…

Something interesting happens.

After all the effort, the shaking, and the moments where you questioned your life choices for signing up for the class… you suddenly feel really good.

Your body feels lighter. Your posture is better. Your mind feels calmer.

And that’s usually the moment when people think,

“Okay… I’m definitely coming back.”

See you in class beautiful!
