Why Choose a Women Only Pilates Studio in St. Albert?
Afitness Pilates is a women only studio, and that single decision shapes everything about how our classes feel. If you have been searching for a women only gym, a ladies only Pilates studio, or a female only fitness class in St. Albert or Edmonton, this guide explains what women only means in practice, why women choose it, and what to expect when you walk in.
What does women only mean at Afitness?
Every class on the schedule is for women. Our instructors are women. The studio floor, the change area, and the classes themselves are a female only space. The policy applies at all times, not only to certain classes or hours.
Why do women choose a women only studio?
The reasons vary, and all of them are valid:
Comfort. Many women simply feel more at ease training without men in the room, particularly in fitted clothing, in heated classes, and in floor positions that are common in Pilates and barre.
Modesty and faith. Women who observe modesty practices can train in a space where they can dress and move freely. A women only studio makes fitness accessible to women who would otherwise not attend group classes at all.
Focus. With no audience, women tend to push harder, try things they would avoid in a mixed gym, and worry less about how they look.
Community. Women only rooms build a specific kind of camaraderie. Members cheer each other on, show up for each other, and come to the monthly studio events as much for the people as for the class.
Beginners. Women returning to exercise after a break, after children, or after injury often say a women only space is the only reason they felt able to start.
Are the classes less intense because they are women only?
No. If anything, the opposite. Afitness classes are known for being on the challenging side. Reformer classes load the legs, glutes, and core heavily. Hot mat Pilates, hot barre, and Hot Strength are heated and demanding. Women only describes who is in the room, not how hard the class is.
Who teaches at Afitness?
All Afitness instructors are women with training in Pilates, barre, or strength coaching. Several are particularly experienced with nervous first timers, and if you let us know you are new, we will point you to a class and instructor that suits you.
Is there an age requirement?
Clients must be 18 or older to attend classes, or have parental consent. Valid ID may be required. Many of our members train alongside their adult daughters, sisters, and friends.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes. Classes are booked individually through Momence, so each of you creates an account and books into the same class. Afitness also hosts private events and team events for groups, birthdays, and team events. Email info@afitness.ca for details.
What is the atmosphere like?
Warm, loud when it should be, and supportive. Instructors introduce the class, play good music, and know members by name. The hot room is heated before every class so you walk into warmth. Afitness hosts monthly member events with vendors, goodie bags, and classes, and the studio has a lively Instagram community at @afitnesspilates.
Is a women only studio right for me if I already go to a regular gym?
Many members keep a regular gym membership for heavy lifting and use Afitness for reformer Pilates, heated classes, and community. Pilates improves the control, mobility, and core strength that make gym training safer and more effective. The two are complementary.
